The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 100 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.
Below are some tips and projects they are working on:
Deceased Animal Cleanup along League City Roadways
As daylight hours decrease during the fall and winter, changes in animal movement and human commuting patterns increase the risk of vehicle-animal collisions. This seasonal shift in migration patterns often leads to a rise in animal fatalities on roadways. Our Public Works Streets, Stormwater, & Traffic Departments work to remove deceased animals following these incidents. Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution, particularly along the edges of roadways. Reducing speed during dawn and dusk, especially when approaching wooded areas and where deer crossing signs are posted, can significantly reduce the chance of an accident. The Deer crossing signs are strategically placed where a high number of deer crossings are known so we can alert drivers of the possible deer crossings ahead.
Winter Weather Preparation
The City of League City is gearing up for the weather event facing us over the next few days. Winter weather presents a unique set of challenges for roadway management and drivers alike. Proper preparation is key to maintaining safety and minimizing disruptions. A sand salt spreader for roadways is a vehicle-mounted or towable machine designed to spread a mixture of sand and salt onto road surfaces, primarily to improve traction and melt ice or snow during winter conditions. Fleet installed the sand salt spreader in one of our dump trucks. It will be used to distribute the product on our roadways.
