Several Galveston roads will be closed or partially restricted as crews complete sanitary sewer installation and road restoration for the South Shore project.

Drivers in Galveston should plan for several road closures and traffic restrictions related to ongoing South Shore construction, including work on Heards Lane, 59th Street and the intersection of 59th Street and Avenue R.

Heards Lane will be fully closed from 59th Street to Saladia Street 24 hours a day from Sept. 21 through Oct. 12. The closure will support installation of a new sanitary sewer main and completion of road restoration.

Also from Sept. 21 through Oct. 12, 59th Street will be fully closed during working hours between Heards Lane and Avenue Q. Crews will conduct sanitary sewer installation and road restoration in that area.

A partial closure is scheduled for 59th Street between Avenue Q 1/2 and Avenue R during working hours from Sept. 21 through Sept. 30. The intersection of 59th Street and Avenue R will be fully closed during working hours on Sept. 23.

No street parking will be allowed within each work zone during the closures. Drivers are asked to plan accordingly and use caution when traveling through the construction area.

The closures are part of ongoing construction connected to the South Shore project. Work includes installation of the new sanitary sewer main and restoration of affected roads.
