A heartfelt message from the Mayor
I wanted to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude for the extraordinary acts of service and community spirit demonstrated by individuals within our city during a recent challenging time.
In the early hours following the storm, I had the privilege of witnessing the remarkable efforts of two individuals, Doug Richardson and Doug Roberts, who took it upon themselves to clear our impassable roads of fallen trees and assist neighbors facing similar challenges. Their swift and selfless actions exemplify the true essence of our community, embodying the spirit of unity, compassion, and resilience that define us. I also witnessed another citizen, Michael Quaranto who had put together a few neighbors that went all over the island helping others. As the day went on I witnessed more and more islanders helping islanders. It was a calming sight to see.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Police Chief David Donaldson and the dedicated officers of the CLSPD for their unwavering commitment to maintaining order, security, and safety within our city. Chief Donaldson and his team worked tirelessly throughout the night, ensuring the protection of our citizens and assets, including their own. Their selfless service and vigilance have played a crucial role in our city’s resilience during this challenging time.
I also wish to acknowledge and thank our City Administrator, Mike Kramm, for his tireless dedication and steadfast commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our city and its residents. Mike’s collaborative efforts with Chief Donaldson and myself in emergency management planning have been invaluable in safeguarding our community in times of crisis.
I commend all our citizens for heeding the warnings, staying informed, and making necessary preparations ahead of the storm. Your proactive approach and readiness have been instrumental in minimizing the storm’s impact and ensuring the safety of our community. Also I want to thank all of the citizens for helping each other during this time.
As we reflect on the recent events, let us view this experience as a valuable lesson and a reminder to remain vigilant and prepared for future challenges. While this storm may have been a test run, it is imperative that we continue to stay prepared and resilient for any future emergencies that may come our way.
Together, we have shown that in times of adversity, our community stands united, supporting one another with compassion and selflessness.
