The Public Works Department is made up of various sub-departments including Fleet, Line Repair, Streets/Stormwater and Traffic, Wastewater, and Water. Each week, over 100 employees are responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, and improvement of existing and new infrastructure across League City which includes everything from roadways and traffic lights to storm drains, sewers, and water production.

Below are some tips and projects they are working on:

24-Inch Transmission Water Main Repair

On August 20, 2024 Utility crews were made aware of a leak on the 24-inch transmission water line along State Hwy 96 between I-45 and State Hwy 3. Water Production crews made the necessary adjustments to the eastside operations in order to be able to shut the water main down for repairs. Crews worked to isolate and drain the line through the night, so the contracted welder can perform the repairs needed to get the water line back operational for the eastside of town by August 21,2024. Currently we are on schedule and do not anticipate any delays.

Mowing of Outfalls After Hurricane Beryl

The Streets and Stormwater crews have been working to quickly clean up vegetation and fencing debris throughout League City while continuing to take care of our everyday responsibilities. One of our most urgent needs has been the mowing of League City right of ways and drainage outfalls. We have re-focused our vegetation management resources back to mowing and trimming trees to keep League City looking well maintained and our drainage systems working properly. After all the rains from Hurricane Beryl then the many days of sunshine, the vegetation around League City has grown very rapidly. Over the last two weeks both League City and contractor crews have caught up nearly all mowing responsibilities back to our routine maintenance schedule.
