League City Animal Care (LCAC) was recently recognized by Best Friends Animal Society for maintaining its “no-kill” status in 2024. This means LCAC saved 90 percent or more of the dogs and cats that entered last year. A 90 percent save rate is the nationally recognized benchmark to be considered “no-kill,” factoring that approximately 10 percent of pets who enter shelters have medical or behavioral circumstances that warrant humane euthanasia rather than killing for lack of space.
“We’re incredibly proud to be recognized once again for achieving no-kill status,” said Amelia Nusbaum, Animal Services Manager at League City Animal Care. “This milestone reflects the dedication of our staff, volunteers, fosters, and especially our community. We truly couldn’t do this without the ongoing support of those who adopt, foster, volunteer, and donate. Every contribution makes a life-saving difference for the pets who depend on us.”
Best Friends Animal Society is a leading national animal welfare organization working to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters. League City’s recognition is a result of the Society’s annual data report.
