The City of Galveston is inviting residents, local athletes, and visitors to celebrate the grand opening of the new Sandhill Crane Soccer Complex on Wednesday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 3348 7 Mile Road and is open to the public. Families, youth soccer players, and league participants across the region are encouraged to attend and take part in the festivities.
The Sandhill Crane Soccer Complex represents one of the most significant recreational investments the City has undertaken in recent years. Funded through certificate of obligation bonds and hotel occupancy tax revenues, the new facility was designed to expand recreational access while supporting sports growth and tourism.
The complex features multiple lighted soccer fields suitable for both youth and adult league play. Additional amenities include restroom facilities built to double as shade structures and storm shelters, bleachers for spectators at the championship field, a 1.5-mile concrete walking trail for exercise and leisure, and a basketball court to broaden recreational offerings for guests.
City leaders and parks officials anticipate that the complex will become a regional sports destination. By hosting tournaments and league events, Galveston has the potential to draw teams, families, and spectators from across Texas and surrounding states, which is expected to positively impact hotels, restaurants, and local retail businesses.
“The Sandhill Crane Soccer Complex is a major step forward for Galveston’s parks and recreation system,” said Barbara Sanderson, Executive Director of Parks and Recreation. “It’s a space built for our community’s athletes, families, and visitors to come together and enjoy healthy, outdoor fun.”
