Gulf Coast Water Authority’s (GCWA) annual, routine system maintenance begins Monday, April 7 and will continue until April 21st.
GCWA will temporarily change its water disinfection process from a combination of chlorine and ammonia (chloramine) to chlorine only. During the disinfection process, water users may notice some water discoloration, cloudiness, or chlorine smell. These conditions are harmless and temporary. The chlorine maintenance process has not been linked to any adverse health effects.
Please contact your local municipality or water district if you have any questions or concerns. As part of the disinfection process, municipalities and water districts flush their systems by opening fire hydrants, which should remedy any issues.
